The British Philosophical Association is launching a new mentorship scheme for current doctoral researchers and early career researchers.
The scheme is particularly aimed at those who have recently lost a supervisor or mentor through departmental closure, restructuring, illness, or retirement.
What is the scheme for?
- To provide timely mentorship for scholars who have lost a supervisor or mentor.
- To offer career advice and support to those facing complex circumstances.
- To help emerging scholars build sustainable pathways towards long-term or permanent employment in philosophy or beyond academia.
- To support the continued development and retention of new researchers in a volatile sector.
How does it work?
- Mentorship agreements will initially last for one year.
- Mentors and mentees will meet 4 times during the year.
- If both participants wish to continue, the mentorship can be extended after the first year.
Pilot year
As this is the first year of the scheme, we can offer only a limited number of mentoring places.
Mentees will be selected on the basis of fit and where we are most confident that the scheme can provide meaningful support. Applicants who are unsuccessful during the pilot year may be contacted again in future years once the pilot phase has been completed.
